For iPhone and iPad users, Apple has released iOS 12.1.1. The newly updated iOS version contains a few minor changes and enhancements along with the regular bug fixes.
iOS 12.1.1 mainly concerns bug fixes, improving the platform performance on all compatible hardware, and ensuring that every known security problem is fixed, as the release versions suggest. This release also unlocks certain minor features that give iPhone and iPad owners something to sink in.
iOS 12.1.1 introduces the extended haptic touch for iPhone XR owners, enabling it to broaden lock screen notifications. In the apparent lack of the 3D Touch on the Liquid Retina LCD panel of the iPhone XR, this can clearly be seen.
Apple is also using the latest release to make a few slight changes to the iPad’s Apple News App when used for the landscape as well as some tweaks related to the new eSIM feature that lets the operation of a device owner with more than one number on their modern iPhone device.
Finally, Apple also made a few modifications to FaceTime within iOS 12.1.1, including the reintroduction of a feature to record a live photo for FaceTime, as well as visual alterations to the bottom bar and the access to certain features and buttons.
This is definitely a response to the skeptical phone calls from those who assumed Apple’s recent iOS 12 FaceTime changes were a nightmare in usability.
It is fantastic to see how much the Cupertino-based company took that into consideration and modified it quickly. In particular, considering that FaceTime now supports up to 32 people in a single call, it is particularly important that more people use and interact on a daily basis.
This institutional decision allows owners to download and install the latest and reportedly largest version of the Apple Mobile operating system, including iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and other compatible iPhone models and iPad Pros. And, of course, as this is a relatively big release on the route map ofiOS 12, additional features and corrections to current functionality are included.
Apple eventually brought Apple News to the territory for those who love living the iOS dream in Canada. It provides everything users know and like about the consolidated news application and provides French and English language support. The Apple News app, which today Apple announced at its event on 25th March, also includes the new subscription service Apple News+. In the form of a giraffe, a boar, an owl, and an adorable looking shark, Apple has also used iOS 12.2 to roll out four new Animoji characters.
How to Update to iOS 12.1.1
Anyone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can now pick up the latest release of Apple iOS 12.2. It can be downloaded from the device itself directly (Settings > General> Software Update) or as IPSW-Download for all those who prefer a new installation, dependent on your inclination. It is also available as OTA update. The latter will, of course, need the latest iTunes version and will be installed by the device manually for a new iOS 12.2, so make absolutely sure you prepare a backup in advance.
The most convenient way to install iOS 12.1.1 on an iPhone or iPad is via the iOS Settings App’s Software Update feature. To install the software update you need enough storage.
